Fire Strategy

A fire strategy is a comprehensive plan that outlines the safety measures and management arrangements for a building to minimise the risk of a fire occurring and to ensure the safety of occupants. It includes various safety features such as fire alarms, sprinkler systems, fire doors and escape routes. It also outlines management arrangements such as staff training, regular fire safety checks and maintenance of the safety features. It also documents important elements such as access arrangements for Fire and Rescue Services. These measures are designed to ensure that the building is safe and that all occupants are aware of the procedures to follow in the event of a fire.

Fire Risk Assessment vs Fire Strategy

A simple analogy would be that a fire risk assessment is very similar to a vehicle MOT - it assesses the fire arrangements within a building as a "snap shot in time" and the effect that people have on a building. It makes recommendations on how to improve the arrangements - much the same as an MOT would recommend changes such as needing new wipers or perhaps tyres to improve the safety of your vehicle.

A strategy document details the fire precautions that are built into the property along with the equipment that has been installed and details the processes that are to be followed in order to maintain the engineered safety of a building.
